I absolutely love symphonic metal (Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Within Temptation, Epica), a huge variety of movie and game soundtracks, Rock (3 Doors Down, Pain of Salvation, Poets of the fall) and instrumental. I love anything with a good melody. What is a good melody? Well, that's a hard question indeed. But the games Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Advent Rising, and the movie The Fountain make up some of my favorites. And most of what Hans Zimmer has composed. I guess in the end I am various, unique and pretty closed-minded when it comes to rap, pop and beat-heavy techno which goes on for six+ minutes without really any melody. And don't even get me started on dubstep (no offense of course to anyone who likes those genres.:)

i love within temptation and nightwish too!. especially within temptation:)

as for me, i'll listen to anything once. i like rock (linken park, disturbed, alter bridge, all time low) rap (like eminemm and 50 cent) movie soundtracks (particularly the soundtrack to shutter island) instrimnetals obviously, because that's what most of shutter island is, anything really from like the early 60's to the present day- apart from opera, and jazz. those are 2 styles i've just never got in to.

oh, and the only game soundtracks i really like are the final fantasy ones

Laced, if you like Nightwish I highly recommend their latest album, especially their symphonic only version. Wow! As for game soundtracks, if you like Final Fantasy, I also recommend the Xenogears/Xenosaga games, and Xenoblade. You can find all of them for free (legally) at www.bluelaguna.net. in the MP3s section if you like.

Yeah, I can totally understand where you're coming from with opera and jazz. Those are the only 2 genres I've been unable to get into myself. As for my favorite genres? Hmmm, well, I like rock and metal, and obscure 60's psychedelic stuff. I'm also into early blues and country. The two are actually strikingly similar, except one was reserved for the hillbillies and one for the blacks, but the themes are pretty closely paralleled. I have such a huge music collection though that it's hard to say exactly what my favorites would be.

A lot of my tastes are hard to pin down. Comedy and novelty, psychedelic, garage punk, and progressive rock from the Sixties and Seventies, a bit of Sixties instrumental loungey stuff if it's interesting, old Moog records, a bit of classical, jazz that isn't so smooth, blues, Celtic, movie and TV scores, and other really essoteric things that are hard to classify.

I was just a kid when he started his shows, so I kind of followed Demento from having a popularly syndicated national radio show up until what I think he does now which is an internet only thing. Unfortunately, listen to enough shows and he plays some of the same stuff. Luckily the net is full of resources for demented music and there are blogs to find old comedy albums and the like.
